Talking Points

  • Moses will speak as God, literally speaking for God.
  • God’s plan is to deliver Israel, but also for there to be such a powerful demonstration that there be no doubt to all people that “He is the Lord.”
  • God’s plan from the start included many great signs and judgments on Egypt.
  • Over and over, we see Moses and Aaron followed God in exact obedience. The Bible reports, “as the Lord commanded them, thus they did.” Think about that! God took notice and recorded for all time – they obeyed Me.
  • As the plagues unfold, it is interesting to see that Pharaoh’s magicians could mimic some of the feats. We truly exist in a battle against supernatural forces.

Thoughts

I wonder how much we think about the reputation of our God in the eyes of the world. Do we think about how He is perceived by unbelievers? Do we consider how our lives add to the perception, whether that be positive or negative? In this account, we see God was going to move powerfully in the midst of His people. It would be a feat they would never forget. We see how it would impact the Egyptians. They would know there is a true and living God. They would feel His power firsthand. Yet, the Bible talks about an even greater audience — the entire world. God was going to move in such a way that the entire world would know, would talk about it, would remember. In fact, He says that is His goal.

Today, God has the same goal — that all the world would know! He says in the end, every single tongue will confess it. Until then, even the rocks long to cry out in praise of our Savior God. So, what about us? Do we live thinking about the perception of a lost world? Does God’s greatest act of deliverance, by way of the death, burial, and resurrection of the Messiah, propel us to great faith? To great acts of obedience? What would people say about our salvation by watching how we live? May we be like Moses and Aaron — “as the Lord commanded them, thus they did…” — to the glory of God!
