Talking Points

• In contrast to the popular phrase, “older and wiser,” age does not produce wisdom. God gives wisdom. Imagine the wisdom that God could grant in a lifetime spent walking with Him.
• From Elihu, we see this truth — it is better not to speak quickly or flippantly.
• God is just. We can have this assurance. “Surely, God will not act wickedly, And the Almighty will not pervert justice” (Job 34:12).

Thoughts

It’s all about perspective! Making sense of life and making great choices in life all come down to perspective. But, not just any perspective — a godly one.

Elihu points out that Job’s friends had been speaking with knowledge, yet they were missing God’s perspective. Today, how do we avoid this same mistake? How do we acquire God’s perspective and see with godly wisdom?

First, ask God. It’s as simple, yet as profound as that. We must humble ourselves and recognize where wisdom comes from. The good news is that if we do this, God promises to give it: “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him” – James 1:5.

Second, spend time in God’s Word. As cliche as it may sound, the formula is plain — time spent in God’s Word results in godly wisdom. There are no shortcuts. But, anyone who follows the formula can testify: God is faithful to keep His promises.
