Talking Points

  • Life is fast and fleeting. Many of the things we tend to consider important are revealed to be insignificant. The eternal is what truly matters.
  • God’s faithfulness, lovingkindness, righteousness, justice, and great power are praised.
  • We would do well to understand that hoping in plans, armies, human strength, and resources will not endure. Our hope for true victory is found in fearing God and in His mercy. Literally the only sure hope is in God. “He is our help and shield” (33:20).
  • A key difference in the righteous and the wicked: The righteous meditate on God’s law, while the wicked think continually about their next evil move, meditating on transgression. I wonder, does a changed heart long for His Word, or does His Word change our hearts? Yes.

Thoughts

Are we honest when we pray? Really? Or, do we try and hold back, trying in vain to guard our image, even from the One who knows our hearts?

Psalm 25 records an honest prayer from David. He seeks God’s truth and guidance. He is open about his struggles and his enemies. He asks for God’s forgiveness, open about his sin. He admits his weaknesses, turning to God for help. And, in all of that, he praises God. Ultimately, David knows that he truly can lift up his very soul to God, and he can trust Him with it. Amen!
