Talking Points
- God replies to Job, reminding him of His great power and unsearchable wisdom. He points out Job’s weakness as a man.
- It is a profound and humbling thing to consider, “Who is like the LORD our God?” (Psalm 113:5).
Thoughts
Years ago, I said, “Our problem is we have lost our astonishment with God.” Our faiths are shallow, our walks distracted, our commitments half-hearted, our obedience less than full, all because we have lost our awe of God. As we read Job’s response, may we be reminded, “…as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9).
We need a deeper understanding of the awesomeness of God. My friend, in a season of heartache, once sat down and penned this description of our God. I’ve read it countless times, often in tears. I love it. Read it slowly. Consider each line. This is our God.
My God is holy.
He is eternal.
God is infinite.
His knowledge knows no bounds.
He is Creator of everything.
My God is righteous.
He is just.
He never changes.
God has all wisdom.
He is unsearchable.
My God is all-powerful.
He is present everywhere.
God depends on no one for existence.
He reigns sovereignly.
My God is merciful.
He is gracious to us.
His love is unmeasurable.
He is jealous for me.
My God is good.
He is faithful.
God is incomparable — there is no one like Him.
And, He, alone, is worthy of all worship and praise!
