Talking Points
- In these psalms, we see that the great works of God are to be studied (111:2). Wisdom begins with an in-depth knowledge of God and His working (111:10). The man who delights in God’s commands is blessed (112:1). All of this requires an effort. It is a deliberate task, an undertaking. It is literally Bible study. I wonder if the idea of a “quiet time” when we seek to quickly and lightly focus on small pieces of God’s Word is actually robbing us of the benefit of deep Bible study. I wonder if having a “devotional time” leads us to be content missing the blessing of an involved consideration of God’s Word.
- In Psalm 115, we find a detailed description of the false god. It is important to warn and to be warned of the characteristics of false gods. And, “Those who make them will become like them” (115:8). Following anything but the one true God will leave you empty, hopeless, and, ultimately, dead.
- True worship provokes joyful singing, shouting, and worship of God!
Thoughts
As we have endeavored to be consistent in God’s Word, we have come to a sure conclusion: God wants to be known. In fact, His Word exists for that purpose. Page by page, inspired word by inspired word, God is telling us, “This is who I am.”
As we have endeavored to be consistent in God’s Word, we have come to an even greater conclusion: Everything — absolutely everything — hinges on us really knowing God. Why would we trust Him? Why would we turn to Him for salvation? Why would we follow Him in faith? It will only be because we know Him! And, the more we know Him, the more we are blessed.
In these psalms, we see over and over who God is. Today, as you read through the verses, take time to consider our God.
