Talking Points

  • The cupbearer didn’t remember Joseph or his promise to him for two years – but God did! After two years, Joseph is called to interpret Pharaoh’s dream. It is clear he follows the living God and God used him. Joseph is appointed ruler, second only to Pharaoh himself.
  • We now see that Joseph’s obedience and faithfulness, even when it was terribly hard, when the process was long, and when he couldn’t understand, was used by God. Not only did God use Joseph in His deliverance of a family, but an entire nation — a nation that would produce the Christ!

Thoughts

Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” This truth is evident in the life of Joseph. Just like him, our answer to whatever circumstances we may ever find ourselves in is:
– to know God by His Word
– to obey God in spite of our emotions
– to trust God, knowing that His plan prevails and His plan is best.

Not a burden we bear, not a sorrow we share,
But our toil He doth richly repay;
Not a grief or a loss, not a frown or a cross,
But is blessed if we trust and obey.
