Talking Points

  • Once again, we see great detail in events and genealogies, describing actual, historical accounts. God blesses Noah and his family; life moves on. As time passes, people become prideful and self-focused. In their disobedience, they seek to build a tower to heaven, “to make a name for themselves.” God changes their languages and disperses them all over the earth. This is the beginning of people groups and nations.
  • There is only one race – the human race. We are all descendants of Noah, and ultimately, all descendants of Adam and Eve. Division according to race is man-made and not of God. Again, God judges the heart, not outside differences. In eternity, we will all speak the same language again – what was a punishment for sin will all be set right again!

Thoughts

“God remembered Noah.” He is faithful to fulfill His promises! Salvation comes at His hand, putting His grace and power on glorious display. Noah is driven to worship! And yet, with the rainbow still gleaming in the sky, man slips steadily back into self-worship and sin. All reminding us — we need not a temporary deliverance, not a temporary ark, but a permanent Savior! From Noah’s altar on Mount Ararat, we can see the final altar on Mount Calvary. Jesus — the ark of my deliverance.
