January is for new starts

First off, let me start with this — if you are reading this because you want to bless your wife’s walk with Christ, good job! It’s a beautiful thing to desire that, and greater still to seek it. Here’s the most encouraging thing I can tell you today: God sees you. He sees your desire. He sees your heart. And while we can’t control other people’s walks with Christ, we can bless them. Here’s God’s promise to you:

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” – Matthew 7:7

We are praying for you as you are asking and seeking to bless your wife’s walk with Christ, and we want to encourage you in that. So, here they are:

5 Ways You can Bless your Wife’s Walk with Christ!

Pray for her and with her.

Without doubt, one of the most impactful ways to bless your wife’s walk with Christ is to pray for her. Pray for her walk. Pray for your wife to grow in her love for Christ. Pray for her to abide in Him. Ask God to give her strength, courage, and perseverance. Ask Him to teach, lead, and sustain your wife. Pray, asking God to shape her into the wife He wants her to be, and trust her to Him. Thank God for the blessing of your wife.
And — let her hear you pray for her. As followers of Christ, we need the encouragement, the bolstering of faith, and the worship that occurs when we pray together. It is no small thing. If you want to bless your wife’s walk with Christ, pray for her, and pray with her.

Love her.

This seems so cliche, so obvious. But, I’m not talking about an emotion. When God instructs husbands to love their wives, He uses the word “agapate.” The word means to prefer, or to choose. He goes on, in Ephesians 5:25, to say, “love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her.” We understand this to mean: choose her, prefer her, even at the cost of yourself. This won’t be an emotion or a longing that comes and goes. This will be a choice that you make, each moment of each day. You’ll have to choose to love her more than you love yourself. And, when you do that, it will bless her walk with her Savior.

Consider her.

Everyone likes to be considered, to be recognized, to be seen by the ones they love, rather than overlooked, unappreciated, or ignored. Your wife is no different. So, how will this bless your wife’s walk with Christ? It’s all in the encouragement. When you consider her feelings, her thoughts, her efforts, her contribution, her growth, her value, or her giftedness, and you express your consideration of her it will encourage her in every way. If you see something in her walk that you admire, be quick to point it out. Hold your wife in high regard, and it will bless her walk with Christ.

Lead her.

God created your wife with an innate desire to be led by a strong, Godly man. She wants to see you read your Bible, so that you know the direction God has for you, because you can’t lead where you aren’t going yourself. Your wife wants to hear you lead your family in prayer. She wants to follow your lead in your finances. She longs for you to lead in finding, attending, and serving in a church that teaches the truth. Your wife wants to see you lead her to, point her to, remind her of, teach her (and anyone else who’ll listen) of Jesus Christ. In your conversations, in your entertainment, in your work, in the teaching and training of your children, in your obedience, in your convictions, in your faith — in all areas, your wife wants to follow your lead as you follow Christ. If you want to bless your wife’s walk with Christ, lead her.

Share with her what God is teaching you.

Do not overlook this one, simply because it’s listed last. It is an extremely powerful way to bless your wife’s walk with Christ. Have you ever noticed when someone stumbles upon something new and exciting, they want to share it with others? It can be the latest time-saving gadget, a book they couldn’t put down, or the best way to cook a brisket. What we’re learning is just better when we tell others about it. So, when was the last time you told your wife what God was teaching you in your own walk? When we tell each other what we’re excited about, it pushes us all to greater things. If you tell me about the best brisket you ever cooked, I’m likely to try it your way. The same is true in this area, too. If you want your wife to be blessed in her walk with Christ, tell her how you are being blessed in yours. You’ll both be better for it.

God bless you,
