Do you ever feel like your relationship with Christ has become grotesquely one-sided? Ever feel as though you have taken Christ’s love for you and made it all about…well…you? We talk about who we are in Christ. We revel in what we have in Christ. And, Lord knows, we add to an infinitely growing list of what we need from Christ. Our beautiful relationship drifts until it’s all about us. Pretty sickening, isn’t it?
Well, what if today, we turned the table?
“How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.”
Elizabeth Barret Browning originally penned these famous lines to describe her beloved husband Robert. Surely, our love for Christ would inspire much loftier words.
“How do I love Thee? Let me count the Ways.”
— A Love Letter to my Savior
I love You as the creation of Your own handiwork — fearfully and wonderfully made in Your very own image.
I love You as the great benefactor of Your love — because You first loved me.
I love You as Your very own righteousness — my stains are removed and I wear Your beautiful robe of perfection.
I love You as one forgiven of much, a multitude of sins — and all were against You.
I love You as one redeemed — not in gold or silver, but purchased in Your own precious blood.
I love You as a new creation — the life I shamed and ruined in sin, You made new again.
I love You as a life saved — not in any work that I mustered up, but in Your cross of suffering and resurrection of power.
I love You with a hope and a future — not in worldly things, but in You alone.
I love You as one eternally secure — saved by You and now held by You.
I love You with deep peace in my heart — peace the world could not give, but that You freely did.
I love You with a great joy of expectation — knowing I will stand eternally in Your presence, absent of sin, death, and suffering, all forever conquered in Your power.
I love You, Lord Jesus — with all I am — I love You.
